The plastic straw became a symbol of single-use waste—and reusable straws became the first swap for many people going green. But between materials, you've got options with different tradeoffs.

Materials Compared

Stainless Steel
The durability champion. Lasts forever, dishwasher safe, no flavor transfer after initial wash. Conducts temperature though—freezing drinks feel extra cold, hot drinks can burn lips.

Glass
The taste purist's choice. Zero flavor retention, you can see it's clean, aesthetically lovely. Borosilicate glass rarely breaks but isn't indestructible. Not great for on-the-go.

Silicone
The family-friendly option. Soft on teeth (good for kids), no temperature conduction, flexible. Can absorb odors over time and harder to get truly clean inside.

Bamboo
The full-eco choice. Biodegradable, compostable, natural. But absorbs flavors, requires hand washing, and only lasts months not years. Best for home use.
