How to Choose Furniture Sliders

The alternative is throwing out your back trying to lift a couch. Sliders let physics do the work.

Know Your Floors

This is everything:

Hardwood/Tile/Laminate:
Felt sliders glide smoothly without scratching. Never use plastic or foam—they'll leave marks.

Carpet:
Hard plastic or foam sliders with hard shells work. Felt grips carpet and doesn't slide. Low pile carpet is easier than thick carpet.

Mixed Floors:
Dual-sided sliders with felt on one side and hard plastic/foam on the other. One set, all floors.

### Slider Shapes and Sizes

Round (3-4"): Standard furniture legs
Square: Square furniture bases
Rectangular: Sofas, large bases
Large ovals: Heavy appliances

### Weight Capacity

Each slider has a weight limit (typically 200-400 lbs). Four sliders under a 400 lb piece distribute the load—but know your limits.

### Placement Tips

1. Lift one corner at a time using a pry bar or furniture lifter
2. Slide pad completely under the leg
3. Repeat for all corners
4. Push, don't lift—use body weight and legs

### Reusable vs. Disposable

Felt pads wear out; hard sliders last forever. For one move, disposable works. For regular furniture rearranging, invest in quality reusable sliders.
