Modern wheel hooks designed for bikes won't damage wheels if weight limits are respected. Avoid hanging heavy bikes by quick-release wheels. When in doubt, use frame-support mounts.
Bikes can survive outdoors with a good cover, but rust and wear accelerate. For valuable bikes, indoor storage is strongly preferred. At minimum, use a waterproof cover and lubricant.
Typically 4-6 feet of lift plus bike length. For a standard bike: minimum 8-foot ceiling, 10+ feet comfortable. Measure your bike and available height.
